I dreamed of dancing again…it happened. In the late 70s early 80’s., I was in a dance club that did West Coast Swing. Now thanks to my wonderful husband I am dancing again, doing more than just West Coast Swing and LOVING it.

How this came about is another story. Late December of 2006 I lost my mother and yes I was a little depressed. Spring of 2007 my husband said something about taking dance lessons, because he knew how much it meant to me and I think he wanted to lift my spirits (and that it did). The day he said something about taking lessons, I was at the studio that day signing us up. Admittedly at first my husband was thinking…what have I gotten myself into. He now enjoys it, for social dancing and I on the other hand have been bit by the competition bug. I really enjoy the excitement of the competition, watching the other competitors and the friends that I have made across the United States. I love the dresses that we get to wear when we are at competition, the smooth dresses make you feel so elegant and the latin dress make you feel sexy and sometimes all of that in one day.

Exercise (that nasty word)…what a GREAT way to get exercise (beats a treadmill). I lost weight from the beginning of my dancing, and then in April of 2009 I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. I decided then and there that I was going to beat the diabetes that it was not going to beat me. I changed my diet that day and started dancing a little harder. Through diet and dancing (exercise) I have lost about 40 lbs. and stayed off of the diabetes medication.

Do I think you would like to start taking lessons to learn to dance? YES

You say you have two “left” feet…I have heard that before, then the ones that said that start taking lessons with one of the great instructors and they don’t have two “left” feet anymore!

Yes…West Coast Swing is still my personal favorite, but I enjoy all of the dances.
